Most of the 31 essays are from an October 1999 seminar in Copenhagen on relations between the two governments and peoples. Contributors from history, social studies, literary studies, linguistics, and musicology write in the traditions of their own field, so the result is a variety of styles and lengths, and a mix of survey articles and detailed studies of particular topics.
