Discipline and Interdisciplinarity in Foreign Language Studies

In September 2002, over 100 Danish scholars in such fields as linguistics, literary studies, and history formed The Language and Culture Network to address the slump in both student enrollment and prestige of university foreign language departments at the very time when contemporary society has a greater need for linguistic and cultural competence. The 15 papers here, from the first year's activity of the Network, discuss a novel look at traditional disciplines of foreign language studies, interdisciplinary approaches, and the deconstruction of the eurocentric perspective.
