Reforming Thai Politics

Ever since the collapse of the Thai bath, the event that sparked the East Asian financial crisis in 1997, foreign investors have been concerned about a lack of transparency in Thai business and politics and have repeatedly called for fundamental reforms. It was against this background that the Thai parliament passed major changes to the electoral system in 2000, just weeks before the January 2001 election.
