This book describes in detail excavations of an Ipiutak house built around 1300 BP on the shores of the Kotzebue sound in Alaska. First investigated in 1949, the site was newly surveyed in 1997 by a team from the Danish National Museum. This is the first publication of the extraordinarily well-preserved remains discovered by the excavators including numerous tools and weapons made of wood, bone and flint. The interpretation of the structure as a qalegi or seasonal 'hunting lodge' is based on ethnological work among the modern Eskimo inhabitants of the area.
