Bruno Podesta was born in Massa, Tuscany, in 1928. His adventurous life has a first breakthrough when, still a minor, he enlists as a volunteer in the Italian Social Republic (RSI). In 1944 he becomes personal guard of the dictator Benito Mussolini, spending several months at his side. Bruno is later convicted, accused of treason, and faces the harshness of prison. After the war he begins his career in the police. In 1966, the days of the Flood of Florence, he is one of the angeli del fango ("Mud Angels") and receives praises for helping the citizens. Later he will also serve as a lifeguard on the Tyrrhenian coast, and his name will be mentioned in local news for the brave rescue of swimmers in danger. The many physical efforts put his health at a serious risk, but he survived thanks to his fortitude, courage and iron will.
