Il terzo millennio: Saggio sulla situazione apocalittica

“The only suitable project for a morally mature consciousness is that of a dialogue between civilizations”: so wrote in the early 80s Ernesto Balducci (1922-1992), one of the greatest thinkers of the 20 th century, addressing the issue of the enlargement of the borders towards the “global village”. How does philosophical and spiritual thinking react to the crisis generated by the demolition of cultural boundaries and by the opening to Asia? Starting from the main features of Oriental thought, the author shows the ways that need to be followed in order to save the Western world from false values and ignorance, fostering mutual understanding. To bridge the gap between human consciousness and the complexity of the current situation it is necessary to make a qualitative leap, a passage that leads from a state of confusion to a real “new consciousness”. Written at the gates of the third millennium, this almost prophetic essay shows us how mankind should find the strength to reject the past, a past where the real threats for end of the world lie. The book, published for the first time by Bompiani in 1981, is prefaced by Andrea Cecconi and it contains new comments chapter by chapter written by Manuela Plastina.
