The volume is dedicated to Adele Alfieri di Sostegno (1857-1936), a figure until now neglected by the historiography. Daughter of Carlo Alfieri and Giuseppina di Cavour, Adele had an epistolary relationship with Pasquale Villari between 1888 and 1917, year of death of the latter. The correspondence, copied and commented, reveals a very deep and informal relation between the Alfieri family, the "Cesare Alfieri" institute and Villari, central figure of the scientific and didactic turns made by the school after the death of Carlo. From the letters, however, it emerges the image of an autonomous, courageous woman, competent and generous, who travelled through Italy and Europe, committed to promote social solidarity towards immigrants and weak people, particularly in the region of Calabria, shattered by the earthquake.
