Nine papers from the December 1998 conference Identity Formations in Diaspora and Exile, in Lund, Sweden, describe research on topics such as the torture and trauma of people who later become refugees, individual experiences of refugee policies, the ambivalent political loyalties within transnational networks, and the manifold strategies of defining belonging within or against ethnic or religious groups.
