The Burden Assessment Schedule (BAS)

Presents and explains a 20-item questionnaire developed to assess the physical and emotional distress experienced by family members and others responsible for the care of people suffering from chronic mental illness. Addressed to mental health workers in South-East Asian countries, the assessment instrument acknowledges the important role of the family in managing mental illness in this part of the world, and the corresponding need to understand the distress experienced by families and provide adequate support.
