WHO's Western Pacific Regional Office is currently supporting second generation HIV surveillance, which concentrates resources where they will yield information that is most useful in reducing the spread of HIV and providing care for those affected. This report details the findings of two STI prevalence surveys conducted on Tarawa Island during 2003 among trainee and active seafarers and pregnant women attending antenatal clinics.
