The Abakuá society, a religious and mutual aid society that was established in Africa, can also be observed in Cuba. Many scholars have investigated this congregation in terms of its origins, culture, ethnicity, and historical and sociological dimensions. Its members have been stigmatized and wrongly associated with the world of violence and criminal behavior, matters that this volume aims to clear up.
