No Kosher Mushrooms in Bavaria: When a Modern Israeli Meets Traditional Bavaria

Dorit, a young Israeli of Yemenite origin, dreams of making a name for herself in the world. While traveling to America, she meets Klaus, a handsome young German, who falls in love with her. They get married and move to Germany.
When it seems that all of Dorit's dreams are about to come true, she has to face the harsh realities of life in Germany. Her husband's mother a devout German catholic, hiding a dark secret in her past, makes her life miserable, trying to take over her daughters to raise them as Christians and break up her idyllic marriage with Klaus.
The heroine endures much suffering, while vainly trying to find a way out, a way that will enable her to keep her sanity and her family together. When all seems lost, Dorit finds her salvation in an unexpected place.
The novel weaves a fascinating tapestry of emotions, feelings and events, of life in a provincial small Bavarian town that hasn't changed for almost two centuries, from the point of view of an Israeli woman, whose life inadvertently becomes intertwined with this place. The novel is fast paced, invoking anger, laughter, sadness and empathy.
