This book examines issues of non-traditional threats in the context of Indonesia's foreign policy and diplomacy, with a focus on energy security. It shows how the Indonesian government has failed to recognize energy as a strategic commodity that is becoming an important issue for foreign policy and one that can support the effectiveness of Indonesia's diplomacy at regional and international levels. The book argues that the Indonesian government’s energy management strategy is domestic-oriented and examines the consequences of this introspective approach. It also highlights the mismanagement of the energy sector at the domestic level, where the private sector plays a greater role than the government.
