Metropolis: A Mother Goddess City in Ionia y Serdar Aybek, Aygun Ekin Meric and Ali Kazum Oz

Metropolis is a city of the Mother Goddess in Ionia. Located 45 km South of Izmir (Smyrna) it lies halfway between Smyrna and Ephesus. Beneath the classical city lies the prehistoric one, on top is the medieval Byzantine and Ottoman settlements. The site is dominated by a Byzantine fortress. Excavations have brought to light splendid remains of a theater, stoa, bath-gymnasium complex, agora, latrines, bouleuterion, and acropolis. This guidebook presents an insight to the site and its history.
