I Don't Eat Blacks
While studying in the US in about 1963, Richard Ondeng went out to eat at a restaurant in Kansas after attending a church service. The waiter blocked them at the door, saying, "We don't serve blacks." Jokingly, Richard responded, "That's fine. I don't eat blacks!" Not knowing how to respond, the waiter let Richard and his friends in.

That incident sums up Richard's character and his determined Christian faith. Born and raised in Siaya, Richard studied at Maseno and then at Kagumo Teachers' Training College before serving as a headmaster and later supervisor of schools. He rose to the position of Secretary of the Christian Churches Educational Association (CCEA) and later Deputy General Secretary of the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK). Richard also served as the secretary of the Nairobi Pentecostal Church on Valley Road during its formative years.

This biography of Richard Ondeng's life shows a man who was committed to his faith in God, who loved and cared for his wife and children and who had a passion for education in Kenya, especially for girls. His story of quiet determination and standing up for the truth will be an inspiration for many.
