Brian Stutchbury, long time member of Nairobi's Muthaiga Club, shares his life story in this memoir of a life lived mostly in Africa. Brian's Kenya connection goes back to 1913 when his father, Hugh Stutchbury, was the first secretary of Muthaiga Club. Brian was born in England and after school he joined the RAF and the first chapters of this book tell his adventures as a pilot flying over war-torn Europe. After World War II ended, Brian joined Ferguson tractors as their engineer consultant based in Nairobi, Kenya and covering a large area of sub-Saharan Africa. In Nairobi he met Jennifer and the couple married and then bought a farm in Kitale. After about ten years farming in the shadow of Mount Elgon, Brian and Jennifer moved to Rhodesia for a short period before heading back to England. Brian then got a job planting trees in the United Arab Emirates. But Africa kept calling and the family moved back to Kenya, where Brian founded Elephence, specialising in electric fencing solutions.
Brian Stutchbury, who now lives in Kiambu, wrote this book as a record for his own family, but in the process he has produced a book that shows his love of Africa as well as the triumphs and difficulties of farming and running a business in Kenya.
